3 New Plus-Size Brands You Need on Your Radar

May 18, 2023

Hi besties! I’ve been working on a closet overhaul lately, getting rid of items that don’t fit me or don’t spark joy when I try them on. That has left me with a few gaps in my closet that I am trying to find pieces for. I am focusing on brands that are ethical, size-inclusive, sustainable, or just high-quality pieces. A lot of my old favorite brands just don’t work for me now, so I wanted to branch out and discover new brands and pieces that are worth the investment. Here are a few new-to-me brands that I wanted to share with you!

Harshman

Size Range:

1X (14/16) to 3X (22/24)

Company Callouts:

Made in the USA with sustainability, natural fibers, and elevated classic pieces in mind, Harshman creates gorgeous styles meant to last. Their official website does not offer their size-inclusive pieces, rather you can find them at Neiman Marcus, Saks 5th Ave, and Nordstrom.

My Thoughts:

I LOVE the details that this brand adds to basic pieces that turn them into something truly special. I only have bought one piece from Harshman, this tank top. However, it was generously sized (I’m a 26/28) and their 3x fit me perfectly in this piece. Definitely refer to their size guides to figure out what size would be best for you. The price is a little steep, but for quality pieces meant to last a lifetime in your wardrobe, I think the investment is more than worth it. I am so excited to try more from this brand and I’m even more excited to see what pieces they release for future seasons!

Joie

Size Range:

XXS (00 – 0) to 4X (22/24)

Company Callouts:

Joie focuses on primarily silk and cotton fabrics, paying attention to detail. They create casual, luxurious, and comfortable pieces.

My Thoughts:

I have tried a few pieces from Joie and I do think they are true to their sizing. I only have fit into one piece from them, a silk oversized long-sleeve top that I wore on my birthday. I have been on the lookout to see if they have any more oversized pieces come in, so I can try more of their styles.

Francis Valentine

Size Range:

0/XS to 30/3X

Company Callouts:

Co-founded by Kate Spade, this eclectic and eccentric brand reimagines classics with a mature, playful, and sophisticated take. There are some super fun and unique pieces, mixed with elevated basics.

My Thoughts:

I recently discovered Francis Valentine while searching for a wedding guest dress. I tried this dress, but I wanted something more youthful and not as modest. I searched through their website and found so many fun pieces – like this top and this jacket. I kept them in mind when looking for a sophisticated bathing suit cover-up that could also be worn as a stand-alone dress in the spring/summer. I am IN LOVE with this piece! I felt bad and boujie wearing it poolside at my recent staycation. I highly recommend checking them out for whimsical pieces.

As I’m working on filling the gaps in my closet after my huge closet declutter, I’m focusing on brand exploration now. Specifically, I want to find brands that are more friendly to the environment that also create higher quality pieces made to last. I will be doing more blog posts like this in the future, as I discover more brands. Thank you so much for reading and I’ll talk to you again next Friday!
